Effects of ultrasound vibration on differentiation of PC12 cells

Abstract(in English) Cell culture techniques for the applications in regenerative medicine have been studied, and our group have been also investigating a technique to control cell culture using ultrasound vibration. The system is comparatively inexpensive and has a simple structure, providing ultrasound vibration to the cells under appropriate culture conditions. In this report, an ultrasound cell culture dish was fabricated, and the effects of ultrasound vibration generated on the bottom of a culture dish to the growth of PC12 cells were examined. It was found that ultrasound vibration promoted growth of the neurites under microscopic observation, and real-time quantitative PCR analysis revealed that the expression levels of the differentiation-related genes of PC12 cell were changed significantly by ultrasound stimulation.
