Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Alzheimer’s disease is a kind of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and behavior. Using automated computational methods to detect dementia is receiving attention for its affordable cost, fast screening, and non-invasive process. Two perplexities methods utilize language models and their perplexity difference to detect dementia. Previous work confirmed that two perplexities methods detect dementia by evaluating the lexical frequency of the vocabulary in patients’ speech. However, human speech is composed of both vocabulary and grammar/sentence patterns. Our work proposes to incorporate part-of-speech (PoS) tags in the two perplexities methods to eliminate the influence of lexical frequency and show that grammar/sentence patterns help distinguish dementia patients from healthy subjects in the two perplexities methods.
