Abstract(in English) | Hemodialysis is a treatment where the blood is once sent out of the body and cleaned using a special filter called a dialyzer, which is a substitute for the function of the kidneys. Since it is difficult to obtain sufficient blood flow with normal blood vessels, patients require the ArterioVenous Fistula (AVF) as vascular access made by surgery for long-term use. AVF often indicate stenosis due to long usage, and need to be assessed for stenosis by auscultation and palpation on a regular basis. However, only qualitative evaluation is available with these checks and quantitative evaluation is not established.We developed a non-contact and non-invasive device for measuring AVF pulse waves by applying optical technology. The anastomotic part of AVF was photographed, and visualization of hemodynamics and quantification by SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) were evaluated in 20 patients. The flow of blood ejected from the AVF could be detected by the video in all patients, and quantified by SNR (median SNR -0.47, the first quartile = -0.67, and the third quartile 0.00). |
