Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is not necessary to be bound by human characteristics to use a camera as a "machine eye" to acquire images that are not intended for viewing. Therefore, it is obvious that an infrared camera, polarization camera, high-speed camera, or multispectral camera may be better to use instead of a conventional color camera. On the other hand, visual media devices and XRs inevitably use conventional cameras to acquire images and videos to be presented to people. More specifically, the spectral distribution in the visible light band is represented by the three primary colors of R, G, and B, and the frame rate of 30 to 60 images per second is determined in accordance with human visual characteristics. So, is an unconventional camera unnecessary for a visual media device or XR? Of course not. Unconventional cameras are increasingly being used to improve the visual experience, as in the case of ToF cameras in smartphones. In this talk, I will try to give an overview to the relationship between unconventional cameras and visual media experience rather than from an individual perspective, by discussing from the viewpoint of "how information is embedded in and extracted from light", in contrast to the conventional approaches such as what kind of equipment is used and what is achieved.
