Terrestrial Acoustic Communications Employing Transmit Precoding and Channel Interpolation

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes 72kbps terrestrial acoustic communications (TRAC) using commercial acoustic electronic equipment and confirms their effectiveness by means of experimental results. TRACs suffer from both doubly-selective channels, and low transmission information bit rate due to slow propagation speed of sound, where time selectivity and frequency selectivity occur simultaneously. In order to solve these issues, this paper discusses TRACs with the following three features:1) they employ single carrier block transmission with frequency domain equalization using quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM); 2) they compensate distortion of frequency response due to speaker thanks to transmit precoding; 3) they improve tracking capability of mobile environments thanks to channel interpolation. Finally, experimental results confirm that the proposed TRAC can achieve 72kbps transmission information bit rate with a communication distance of 1m under hand-held conditions.
