Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Coverage extension to the sky, seas, and elsewhere is one of the important concepts of the 6th generation (6G) mobile communications. High-altitude platform stations (HAPS) have attracted much attention as a leading candidate for the coverage extension. Service link capacity can be increased by using massive MIMO (mMIMO) systems with a large number of antenna elements. However, the coverage radius achieved by a conventional planar array antenna is limited to only tens of kilometers. This paper proposes a cylindrical mMIMO system that achieves ultra-wide coverage of a radius 100 km as well as high capacity. Assuming the service area with a radius 100 km, simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system improves the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio around the boundaries of the area by about 9 dB, and it achieves around 1.5 times as high capacity as a conventional mMIMO system with the planar array antenna. In addition, a low-complexity user selection algorithm is also proposed, which can efficiently group the users with low spatial correlations based on their angle information. The proposed algorithm is evaluated under real-world population distribution scenarios in Kanto region.
