| Abstract(in English) | The author conducted fieldwork in Melbourne, the capital city of the Australian state of Victoria, as part of her overseas research during the academic year 2021-2022. The plan of the overseas research was to analyze the data obtained from the fieldwork in multiple Australian cities and to develop English learning materials based on the research at Tsinghua University in Taiwan. However, because Taiwan government has suspended the issuance of visas for visiting researchers due to COVID-19 (as of February 2022), she decided to start with fieldwork in Australia, which has allowed entry from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and New Zealand since December 15, 2021. The linguistic landscape survey to be conducted as fieldwork is also the theme of a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) project, of which the author is the PI, and the survey has been conducted mainly in Japan. In this paper, the author conducted a similar survey in Melbourne, an English-speaking multi-ethnic city, collected data for the study, interviewed residents of Melbourne and its suburbs, and compared and analyzed the results with the current situation in Japan. |
