Abstract(in English) | In this paper, in order to improve the traffic flow performance and safety of roundabouts in a multi-mode traffic society, the roundabout with traffic mode based multi-layered structure is proposed, and a simulator for evaluating the performance of the proposed roundabout is constructed. The performance of the proposed multi-layered roundabout is compared with that of a planar roundabout under the three typical traffic sharing conditions, that is, (1) the car-dominated traffic situations, (2) the PMV-dominated traffic situations, and (3) the balanced traffic situations. The proposed multi-layered roundabout has the layer-separated structure according to traffic modes, so there are no conflict points between different modes, and inherently it has high safety performance. Various simulations are carried out, and results show that the proposed multi-layered roundabout superior to the planar roundabout under all the above-mentioned typical traffic conditions. |
