Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The use of a higher frequency range up to sub-terahertz causes a significant restriction on devices. Analog-to-digital converter (ADC), which is one of the key components in the RF front end, is required to be designed with a reduced number of the resolution at the input, even with a few bits. To decompress the nonlinear behavior of the device with this limited number, exploiting the nonlinear phenomenon of Stochastic resonance (SR) has been discussed, particularly on 1-bit ADC to demodulate the 4-PAM signal. Here, we provide a simple demodulation method designed for the SR-based receiver with the few-bit ADC. We show that due to the multi-level output in the few-bit ADC, a complicated calculation of the likelihood function, which follows multinomial distribution, is needed. To avoid such a calculation, we introduce the use of higher-order moments. Based on this concept, we also propose the simple method utilizing the first moment, which does not need to calculate higher-order moments. By numerically evaluating the two proposed methods, the simple method can achieve the same performance with higher-order moments in a specific range of the signal-to-noise ratio.
