Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Positive feedback is effective to improve the gain since sufficient gain cannot be achieved with over-100 GHz CMOS amplifiers. In conventional positive feedback, cross-coupling with differential configuration is widely used. However, the differential configuration has some problems such as doubling the power consumption and chip area. In this paper, we studied the application of series-series feedback (SSF) to D-band CMOS amplifiers. First, the principle of gain boost by SSF is formally clarified and its design conditions are presented. Next, a new gain boost topology inserting a radial stub and a short stub in the source of FET is proposed. It is applicable SSF to D-band CMOS amplifiers. A 130 GHz SSF amplifier was fabricated in a 65 nm bulk CMOS process. The measured gain was 1.6 dB higher than a conventional amplifier. It shows the proposed method is effective for gain boost. |
