Abstract(in English) | This paper presents a differential distributed amplifier with coupled inductors. Broadband and multi-level signaling are used in recent fiber-optic communications, which required broadband amplifiers. Differential distributed amplifiers with coupled inductors realize compact chip-areas. However, the mutual capacitance of the inductors causes the gain ripple and group delay variation. This research analyses the artificial transmission lines in the differential distributed amplifiers as ideal differential transmission lines. The dimensions of the coupled inductors are determined by numerical optimization based on the analytical solution. The amplifier is implemented in a 180 nm CMOS technology, and performance is assessed by measurement. The amplifiers demonstrated a core area of 0.27 mm2, which is smaller than the previous work. The gain and bandwidth are 5.1 dB and 18.5 GHz, respectively. The group delay variation below 15 GHz is only ±2.7 ps. Besides, clear eye opening was observed in 30 Gbps NRZ and PAM4. The RMS jitter in the 30 Gbps NRZ transmission is 0.42 ps. |
