Fast and Wideband Measurement of the Complex EM-Parameters of Absorbers with Open-ended Coaxial Probe

Abstract(in English) In recent years, to keep up with the rapid increase in base stations and ever-growing bandwidth usage and speed requirement of the new generation wireless communication system, a drastic increase in frequency bands is in demand. Therefore, dynamic spectrum access techniques are used to solve the problem. To mitigate the interference among adjacent radio systems operating in the same frequency band, wave absorbers are often exploited indoors and outdoors. To monitor the status of the absorbers in use, a non-destructive and rapid detection technique of the complex EM-parameters of the high-loss absorbers is required. The open-ended coaxial probe measurement method based on the conventional spectral domain theory model is effective for measuring infinite planar sheet-shaped samples, however, it cannot be applied to finite-sized or curved samples. Although it is possible to measure samples of finite size or curved surface using numerical calculation methods such as FEM and FDTD, the long calculation time is a technical problem. In the previous research, we proposed a neural network (ANN: Artificial Neural Network) theoretical model based on a numerical calculation method at a single frequency. In this paper, we propose a novel ANN for wideband measurement by setting the frequency as an input parameter. Experiments are carried out to validate the proposed measurement method.
