[Short Paper] Description of microvessel structures in 3D reconstructed microscopic pathological images of pancreatic cancer

Abstract(in English) In this manuscript, we propose a method that segments microvascular regions in a 3D pathological image. For this purpose, we use a 3D pathological image reconstructed from a series of 2D slice images of the abdominal portion of KPC mouse. In the 3D image, CD31-stained slice images, in which only the microvasculars are stained and are enhanced, are inserted at equal intervals. The proposed method segments microvascular regions in the CD31-stained slice images with U-net. The problem in segmenting vascular regions using U-net is the diversity in the size of the vascular regions and the memory required to run U-net. In order to accurately extract all vascular regions, the U-net is trained and executed in a hierarchical manner to achieve memory-efficient and highly accurate region extraction.
