Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) With the increasing efficiency of power factor correction converters (PFC) used in grids where renewable energy is supplied to multiple loads via the AC bus, the loss reduction of switching semiconductor devices and inductors used for these converters is required. Conventionally, soft switching has been performed in the current critical mode to reduce the switching loss of semiconductor devices, but in recent years, the continuous current mode PFC has been used with the practical application of SiC-MOSFETs and GaN-HEMTs that can reduce switching loss even in hard switching operations. In the continuous current mode PFC, the effective value of the inductor current can be reduced, while a relatively large DC current is biased on the inductor. This paper presents the core loss comparison results under DC current bias for inductors with different core materials designed based on the PFC specification.
