Abstract(in English) This paper introduces a method of respiratory rate estimation based on frame capture of wireless local area network (WLAN). This method uses beamforming feedback matrices (BFMs) contained in the current WLAN frames to estimate the respiratory rate. BFMs are given as right singular matrix in the singular value decomposition of the channel state information (CSI) matrix, where they are transmitted without encryption and can be easily obtained by frame capture. Thus, compared to the conventional CSI-based respiratory rate estimation methods, our method does not require any firmware modifications or special chipsets. In addition, our method performs respiratory rate estimation based on signal processing approaches without using a learning-based one. Specifically, it firstly captures the subject's chest fluctuations using principal component analysis (PCA), and subsequently extracts the frequency corresponding to the respiratory rate using discrete fourier transform (DFT). As a result of the experiment, the proposed method can estimate the respiratory rate of a person sitting in a chair with an error of less than 3.5 breaths/minute.
