SDR Implementation of Analog FM Broadcast Multipath Filter

Abstract(in English) Reduction of the reception degradation caused by multipath propagation is essential for the high-quality reception of analog FM broadcast. Previous reports show adaptive filters effectively solve this issue, but the implementation details are not well-described. In this report, the author explains the details of an open-source SDR implementation that applies a complex NLMS filter to the IF output developed by the author. The author also describes the critical points to consider for the development and the evaluation of the improved reception results by the multipath filter. Experiments showed that the proposed multipath filter reduced the THD+N of an 880Hz time tone signal broadcast from 1.22% to 0.33% and that the multipath filter effectively improved the reception quality for simple antenna installations.
