Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The mismatch between the orientations of satellite orbit and target terrain imposes restrictions on the efficiency of traditional spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR), resulting in, e.g., long data acquisition period, degraded azimuth resolution and wasted storage and computational resources. Aiming at solving this problem, this paper introduces a new terrain matching framework for spaceborne SAR, featured by allowing the beam footprint strip (BFS) tracking an irregular target terrain with an identical orientation. In this case, a new degree of freedom, i.e., the angle between satellite orbit and BFS, should be additionally considered when performing system design and imaging formation. Comparatively, the traditional modes can be viewed as special cases of the new terrain matching framework when the BFS is just along the satellite orbit. This paper discusses the main opportunities, challenges and strategies of the new spaceborne SAR terrain matching framework, aiming at arousing more interests in this area and further applying it to a wide range of spaceborne SAR in the future.
