A Study of Delay Characteristics of Time Domain Channel Model for Terahertz Band

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we consider the channel model in THz band for future wireless communication systems. To design wireless communication system using the THz band, it is important to understand the channel characteristics and to model them. The propagation of THz waves is affected by frequency selective fading due to the molecular absorption by mainly water in the atmosphere, throughout the THz band. This unique phenomenon of THz band has not been considered in the microwaves and millimeter waves used for conventional wireless communications. However, it has a significant affected network coverage and achievable data rate in the THz band. In this paper, we investigate the delay characteristics of the LoS channel by assuming the impulse response as a time domain channel model in the THz band. In the related work, the propagation characteristics of the LoS channel have been shown such as average delay, delay spread and total received energy. As a result of further investigation, we found that the time when receiver receives the direct wave, have additional delay than the propagation delay calculated by propagation distance / light speed. This additional delay beyond the propagation delay changed by distance and frequency. So, we formulate the additional delay from the group delay of channel and investigate its characteristics.
