Abstract(in English) | We examined Depth-Fused 3D (DFD) between real objects and virtual objects by utilizing Optical See-Through Head-Mounted Displays (OST-HMDs). DFD is a technique of presenting 3-D images by superimposing images displayed with front and rear screens. Recent studies have examined DFD in which virtual objects were superimposed on real objects by utilizing Head-Up Displays (HUDs). However, HUDs have many restrictions on application because of the structure of their optical system. This study evaluated the feasibility of DFD between virtual objects and real objects by utilizing OST-HMDs that had less restrictions on application than HUDs. In the experiment, a commercially available OST-HMD was used, and real and virtual objects whose sizes were 39 × 39 min arc exactly overlapped. There were four conditions of relative binocular disparity between real and virtual objects: 7.5, 15, 22.5, and 30 min arc. The results obtained from the experiment indicated that DFD images were perceived when relative disparity was 15 or 22.5 min arc. We demonstrated that DFD between real and virtual objects by utilizing OST-HMD was feasible. |
