Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Rain attenuation characteristics due to the passage of rain areas are discussed using the Ku-band BS satellite signal observations (11.84 GHz, elevation:41.3°, right-hand circular) conducted in Neyagawa, Osaka, from 1988 to 2019. The equivalent path lengths averaged over each rainfall event are not so much correlated with the ground wind velocity obtained from nearby AMeDAS. However, they show a considerable correlation with the wind velocity, similarly to the typhoon passage, when the wind is averaged between AMeDAS and the upper air wind inferred from the rain area motion. That is, the equivalent path lengths are increased as the average wind velocity is toward the azimuth direction of the satellite, while they are decreased as the average wind velocity is against the azimuth direction. The rain height corrected by the increase and decrease of the equivalent path lengths due to the wind velocity indicates that the rain area is almost contained within the 0℃ isotherm height, in the range of about 70% before the year of 2006 and about 90% after that year, respectively. |
