Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) By using extended depth-of-field (EDoF) lenses (eyeglasses), we became able to measure the relationship between depth-of-field and gaze position, i.e., locus of attention, under binocular stereopsis conditions with constant retinal illumination. We employed a presentation pattern with three levels of grid points in the depth direction and four rows of grid points in the left-right direction, and placed three stimuli (cylinders) at the same time in one trial (total of 24 ways). Observers were required to report their first gaze position immediately after opening their eyes. Number of observers were ten. Experimental results suggest that (1) average of locus of attention was limited to only the near right-hand side in the reference condition (wearing no power lenses), whereas (2) average of locus of attention shifted to the far right-hand side dominantly and simultaneously expanded to the near right- and left-sides when wearing eyeglasses with the EDoF lens. In addition, the results suggest that (1) this phenomenon can be explained by the Japanese Road Traffic Law (left-hand traffic), and (2) the effect in wearing the EDoF lenses provides more room for perceptual processing ability to cope with spur-of-the-moment situations.
