Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We conducted a haptic search experiment in which we replaced the roles of target and disturbance stimuli of circlular tactile symbols with or without a dot at its center, which are often used as tactile symbols for the blind people, to verify whether the search asymmetry occurs due to differences in tactile symbols. The previous experiment in which five sighted people participated in demonstrated (1) As the number of items increases, the average search time increases, (2) the average search time when the target does not exist is longer than when the target exists, and (3) the search time tends to be shorter when searching for a target stimulus with many features than when searching for a target stimulus with few features. In the present study, we added data from five more participants. The result confirmed (1) and (2). But, no significant difference was found in the search efficiency among the two tactile symbols. However, the number of errors increased when the target stimuli have few features compared to when the target stimuli have many features.
