Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, there has been a growing interest in "remote driving" control technology that enables vehicles to pass safely, smoothly and without delay through intersections and merging points in urban areas by acquiring, controlling and adjusting the positions of multiple vehicles using ultra-low latency communication. In cooperative driving, an increase in the amount of information collected at the control point enables optimal control, but at the same time increases the delay. In this paper, we propose a low-latency and localized vehicle control system based on Mobile Edge Computing (MEC). So far, however, only a single layer of MEC-based vehicle control has been studied. In this paper, we propose a multi-layer MEC vehicle control system to realize the optimization of control considering the trade-off between low latency and the amount of information, and evaluate its effectiveness in organizing the parameters of control information. As the number of layers increases, the complexity of the system increases, and the computational complexity and the communication delay between servers become a problem. As an example, we evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed multi-layered MEC compared to the cloud and single-layered MEC by using the average travel time to give route instructions to vehicles and avoid driving in congested areas as an evaluation index. Simulation evaluation shows that the proposed method is effective in reducing the average travel time by 35.86 %, 24.79 % - 25.93 % compared to the cloud-controlled single-layer MEC.
