Abstract(in English) | High gain antennas using narrow-beamforming are required to compensate for high propagation loss in high frequency bands such as millimeter wave and sub-terahertz , which are promising bands to be used for extreme high-speed and high-capacity. When the narrow-beamforming is used for initial access beam searching over all directions, the overhead needed for the beam searching is large. On the other hand, when the wide-beamforming is used to reduce the overhead for the initial access, the coverage area shrinks due to beamforming gain lowering. In this paper, we propose a newly initial access beam search scheme with variable beam width based on the distance to shadowing obstacles for each direction. Our simulation evaluations show that the proposed method can reduce the overhead without shrinking the coverage area in shadowing environments compared with the narrow-beamforming over all directions. |
