Abstract(in English) Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry (BOCDR) is known as a distributed strain and temperature sensing technique with numerous merits including single-end operation, high spatial resolution, random accessibility, and cost efficiency. To boost the operation speed of BOCDR, a frequency-sweeping-free configuration called slope-assisted BOCDR was developed, which enabled real-time operation at the cost of limited strain dynamic range. In addition, use of an electrical spectrum analyzer (ESA) degraded the system size and cost. In this work, we develop a new method for obtaining the strain information by (1) beating down of the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS), (2) directing the BGS to a low-pass filter, and (3) measuring the power of the electrical output from the low-pass filter. This system does not include an ESA, and in addition, the strain dynamic range is expected to be doubled. Herein, in the case of full-length measurement (not distributed measurement), basic operation of this system is demonstrated with enhanced strain dynamic range.
