Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry (BOCDR) is known as a distributed strain and temperature sensing technique with numerous advantages, such as operation by light injection to a single end of a sensing fiber, high spatial resolution, random accessibility to measuring points, and cost efficiency. In general, a relatively long delay fiber is inserted into a reference optical path to control the order of a correlation peak (corresponding to a sensing point) and to enable appropriate operation of the system. Excessively long or short delay fibers are known to deteriorate the system performance, but the optimal length of the delay fiber has not been clarified yet. In this work, as the first step to optimize the delay fiber length in BOCDR, in the case of full-length measurement (not distributed measurement), Brillouin gain spectra (BGSs) were evaluated when delay fibers with different lengths were used in the reference path. When the delay fiber is long, forwardly transmitted light involves Brillouin components caused either by Rayleigh backscattering after Brillouin backscattering or Brillouin backscattering after Rayleigh backscattering. We also experimentally proved this mechanism by investigating the BGS dependence on the relative polarization state. |
