Abstract(in English) Since academia has becoming more and more competitive, especially for young scientists, it is important to understand factors affecting their success in academic career. For the success in academia, obtaining research fund is crucial. Therefore, several existing studies investigate the factors affecting funding success of researchers. In this paper, as a factor for affecting funding success, we focus on the collaboration structure of researchers. More specifically, we investigate the effects of the existence of the joint research projects, the number of the joint research projects, and centrality in the collaboration network on the future funding success of junior researchers in Japan. Our results show that the existence and the number of joint research projects significantly affect the future funding success of junior researchers. Our results show that the median number of years of research funding received by researchers with joint research projects is about 1.5 times longer than that of those without joint research projects, and the average amount of research funding received after 10 years is about 2--4 times larger.
