Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a noninvasive treatment of cancer by coagulating a tumor tissue through temperature rise. However, this treatment has a problem of long treatment time because a large number of exposure and intermission between exposure are necessary. To improve the heating efficiency in a HIFU treatment, the use of cavitation bubbles has been investigated. In addition, through electronically scanning the focal spots, the number of exposures can be reduced by heating the region between each focal spot through heat conduction. We have been developing efficient focal spot scanning sequences based on a hexagonal focal spot scanning sequence proposed in a previous study. In this study, the effect of inter-focal distance on bubble generation and heating efficiency using focal spot scanning sequence is investigated.
