Abstract(in English) | In order to improve the efficiency of the snow removal activity in heavysnowfall areas, the measurement of the snow depth of roads is one of themost important tasks. However, at present, the snow removal operator visually measures thesnow depth by using rulers and poles. This is one of the reasons why there is a shortage of young workers forsnow removal work. In addition, the measurement of road surface condition is also animportant task for the maintenance of paved roads, but it is extremelydifficult for local governments to perform the measurement in a widearea due to lack of budget and staff in charge. The existing research has proposed a method of measuring road surfaceconditions by using ultrasonic distance sensors and by analyzing cameraimages for the snow measurement. However, the measurement range is limited to the vicinity where themeasurement device is installed, and it is difficult to correctlymeasure the undulations of the road surface and snow surface. In this study, we propose a new system that installs high-precisionsensors such as LiDAR which can measure the shape of the road surface onsnowplows and vehicles owned by local governments and analyzes the pointcloud data collected by LiDAR while the vehicles are in operation. In addition, the method to estimate the deterioration of the roadsurface by analyzing the point cloud data that represents the shape ofthe road surface is proposed, Furthermore, the application to the system that can observe and predictthe snow surface in the area where the measurement device cannot befixedly installed is also considered. |
