A Method of Data Detection from Images on Curved Surfaces in Data Embedding to Printed Images Using Mobile Devices

Abstract(in English) A method of embedding data to printed images and retrieving the data using a mobile device has been proposed. This method has assumed that the image is placed on a flat surface. However, considering the flexibility of the method, it is desirable to acquire data from images placed on curved surfaces. In this paper, we propose a method for detecting data from data-embedded images placed on a cylinder surface as an example of a curved surface. Furthermore, since the distortion varies depending on the capturing position and angle to the placed image, we limit the capturing position to the front of the placed image. We propose a method to correct the image by estimating the distance between the mobile device and the image, given the radius of the cylinder, the size of the printed embedded image, and the focal length of the mobile device. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by conducting an experiment in which we acquire data from an image attached to a cylinder.
