Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The aim of this research is to express and present facial expressions using tactile sensations for visually impaired people. For express facial expressions, it is important to clarify the correspondence between facial expression and tactile sensation but it does not clarify the element for the correspondence. In this paper, it is hypothesized that the element is synesthetic metaphors, which are linguistic information to express one of the five senses with other senses. To confirm whether it is possible to indirectly facial expressions to tactile sensations through metaphor, the investigation was conducted. The result of the investigation using 36 synesthetic metaphors and happy, angry, and sad faces showed that happy faces corresponded to the expression of softness, and anger and sad faces corresponded to the expression of hardness and convexity. In addition, it was suggested that the sad faces may correspond to the expressions of wetness.
