[Invited Lecture] Experimental Evaluation of Optical Cross Connects with Flexible Wave-Band Routing for SDM Networks

Abstract(in English) Space-division multiplexing (SDM) technique using multi-core fibers (MCFs) is an attractive candidate to enhance photonic-network capacity. To introduce SDM technologies into photonic networks, a high-port-count optical-cross connect (OXC) architecture that has enough routing performance is needed. Given this background, we have proposed coarse granular routing scheme named flexible wave-band routing (FWBR) modified for SDM networks. This scheme enables to implement OXCs with a number of ports for MCFs at acceptable routing performance. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed OXC architecture based on FWBR and clarify the transmission characteristics in detail.
