Abstract(in English) | A novel direct binary search algorithm for designing high-fabrication-tolerance mosaic-based devices is proposed, and with the method, a 2-?m 4-mode waveguide crossing based on mosaic structure with nanoholes is designed. In fabrication-tolerant direct binary search algorithm, structures with nanoholes, whose diameter is different from the target as well as a structure with nanoholes of the desired diameter are taken into consideration to enhance the device performance under the hole diameter variation due to the fabrication error. The optimization results of 100 samples show that the transmission of TE3 modes in the structure with hole diameter variation by ±10 nm is improved by 3% on average in both cases, compared to the conventional method. The device designed with the method shows insertion loss less than 0.8 dB and crosstalk less than −19 dB, respectively under variation of the hole diameter within ±10 nm. The fabrication tolerance in terms of the hole position error is investigated, and the device can well tolerate the hole position error within 8 nm. |
