Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Currently, demands on high-capacity satellite communications are continuously increasing. To achieve it, multiple input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission using low earth orbit (LEO) satellites is being considered as a solution. We have proposed a low earth orbit-geostationary orbit MIMO (LEO-GEO MIMO) transmission system that can reduce the number of required satellites and can improve throughput. However, the previous studies assumed only users in the vicinity of the equator, where user equipment has good communication channels from GEO satellites. Therefore, in this study, we clarify the range of latitudes where the proposed method can improve throughput performances in a realistic satellite configuration by numerical simulation. The results show that the proposed LEO-GEO MIMO transmission is effective from approximately 60 degrees of southern latitude to 60 degrees of northern latitude.
