Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, the polar code has attracted much attention because it has been adopted as a channel coding for control channels of fifth-generation mobile communications (5G) and beyond. Various schemes have been proposed to improve the performance of polar codes over the AWGN channel, whereas few studies have tackled improvements of polar codes over fading channels. Hence, this report focuses on polar codes for OFDM transmission over frequency selective fading channels. As a Conventional encoding scheme, a bit-flip belief propagation (BP) decoder employing critical set (CS) can improve the block error rate (BLER) of the polar code over the AWGN channel. However, this conventional scheme is expected to incur degradation of BLER over the frequency selective fading channel, because it does not consider the channel state information (CSI). Therefore, this report investigates both encoding and decoding of the polar code based on the CSI for the OFDM frequency selective fading channels. Firstly, the frozen bits and CS of the polar code are assigned on the basis of the log likelihood ratio (LLR) of each encoded bit, which is obtained from the CSI and is used for the BP decoder to estimate the LLR of the information bit. Then in ascending order of the absolute values of these LLRs, the information bits are assigned into the frozen bits and CS. Finally, information on the frozen bits is fed back to the transmitter and used for the encoding of the polar code. The receiver processes the OFDM signal in order to decode the polar code by using information on the frozen bits and CS. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed frozen bits and CS designs gain average $E_b/N_0$ of at most 1 dB and 0.7 dB, respectively, over the conventional design schemes.
