Abstract(in English) | Millimeter-wave communication has been widely studied due to its potential to attain higher data rates by providing a significantly larger spectrum than lower frequency bands such as the 800MHz band. However, it imposes severe propagation loss on the channel gains. To this end, hybrid arrays are commonly used in millimeter-wave systems. In our work, we propose an algorithm that generates the transmitting beamforming codebook for partially connected hybrid arrays exploring the concept of the worst-case channel, which reduces non-negligible latency due to the initial beam-sweeping before data transmission by minimizing the number of transmitted beams while ensuring a minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) level between a common base-station (BS) and user equipments (UEs). Simulations are performed to show the efficiency of the proposed beam codebook design in lowering latency and maintaining minimal SNR. We also show via simulations that the performance gap between fully and partially connected hybrid arrays is marginal. |
