Abstract(in English) Space division multiplexing (SDM) is expected to be a candidate technology for overcoming a capacity limitation in an existing conventional single-mode fiber (SMF). Various SDM optical fibers have been explored considering both core and mode multiplexing. In this paper, we discuss recent technical progress and perspective of multi-core fiber (MCF), particularly which has a same cladding diameter with that in an SMF, considering future deployment and standardization.
