A Software Reliability Assessment Tool with Wavelet Shrinkage Estimation

Abstract(in English) Wavelet shrinkage estimation is a non-parametric technique to estimate the intensity function in non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP)-based software reliability growth model (SRGM), and provides better goodness-of-fit performances than the common parametric approach by means of the maximum likelihood estimation. However, it was essentially difficult to make the long-term prediction of the number of software faults in the future with an arbitrary prediction length. In this paper we propose a long-term prediction method based on the wavelet shrinkage estimation and develop a wavelet-based software reliability assessment tool; W-SRAT, to enable a lightweight and more accurate software reliability prediction, in addition to implement the existing denoising and data transform techniques. The W-SRAT is a unique software reliability assessment tool based on the wavelet shrinkage estimation and is a web-based free software for the fault prediction and quantification of software reliability. We demonstrate how to use the W-SRAT in the actual software reliability management through a case study.
