Improving Broadcast Ratio For Information Sharing Among Mobile Wireless Terminals Under Environment With Congestions

Abstract(in English) Device-to-Device (D2D) communications discussed in this paper refer to a particular category of D2D, in which wireless terminals autonomously and directly communicate each other without central control. Peer Aware Communications (PAC) specified in IEEE Std 802.15.8 as well as LTE-V2X PC5 Mode-4 included in 3GPP Release 16 are good examples of such category of D2D. The authors have been conducting research, development and field examination on information sharing systems based on such D2D communications. We have developed location sharing systems separately for the purposes of assisting safe flying of drones and safe sailing of ships, etc. In the developed systems, each wireless terminal is equipped either on a drone or on a ship and broadcasts own location information periodically to neighbor wireless terminals and in the meanwhile receives broadcasted information from other wireless terminals. Generally, it is desired to let wireless terminals share location information with more and more neighbor wireless terminals as possible. However, when the number of neighbor terminals is beyond the capacity of the radio channel used for broadcasting, congestion occurs and delay happens in sending broadcast. Consequently, wireless terminals cannot broadcast location information within anticipated time. It should be noted that not only increase of sensing range but also increase of wireless terminal density may cause congestion. In this paper, we propose a method of adaptively adjusting the carrier sensing range individually at each wireless terminal in accordance to channel congestion condition. Computer simulation is used to examine our proposal and it is shown that both broadcast ratio and discovery ratio are effectively improved.
