Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the field of education such as universities, active learning such as group discussion (hereinafter, referred to as "GD") is being introduced more and more. However, it is difficult to perform a quantitative evaluation, thus teachers evaluate the participants subjectively. There are few studies that use technical methods to solve this problem. This study aims at establishing a quantitative and objective evaluation method for GD. More concretely, initiative of participants is focused on and the degree of the initiative using verbal and nonverbal information obtained from videos is estimated. In the evaluation, first, 12 features of the participants, which are assumed to contribute to the evaluation of the initiative, were extracted from videos, and the degree of influence on the initiative was investigated. After selecting explanatory variables using the stepwise method, multiple regression analysis was conducted using these variables to derive a formula indicating the degree of initiative. As a result, when the number of common language utterances and the number of nodding were used as features, the evaluation of the initiative was well-estimated with an adjusted R-square of 0.68.
