Evaluation on Biometric Template Protection System Based on Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption

Abstract(in English) Many biometric template protection systems have been proposed to perform biometric authentication while keeping the biometric information secret. While most homomorphic encryption schemes encrypt integers, most face recognition algorithms output floating-point features. Therefore, we need to convert floating-point features to integer features. Ohki et al. have reported the quantization precision that does not affect the biometric performance for face recognition algorithms based on principal component analysis. In this paper, we evaluate quantization precisions that does not affect the biometric performance for face recognition algorithms based on machine learning and show the quantization precisions are about 5 bits. In addition, we evaluate running time of a biometric template protection system based on lattice-based somewhat homomorphic encryption, using integer features transformed with the quantization precision that does not affect the authentication accuracy, and show the authentication time is less than 50 ms.
