A Context-Oriented Software Architecture for Switching Indoor Positioning Methods

Abstract(in English) In an outdoor environment, navigation applications running on our smartphones normally adopt the positioning method based on GPS. On the other hand, they have to use alternative positioning methods in an indoor environment since GPS is not available. These positioning methods are not accurate enough for highly reproducible navigation, especially when there are some physical obstacles and/or transient changes in the environment. In this study, we design a context-oriented software architecture which enables dynamic reconfiguration of indoor positioning methods. In the architecture, context are defined as factors which may affect positioning accuracy, such as changes in signal strength caused by physical obstacles and/or transient environmental changes. Based on our architecture, we can easily realize a dynamic switching facility of indoor positioning methods fitting flexibly to changes in the context. Experimental results using a simple switching facility show the validity of our architecture.
