Comparison of discharge circuits for magnetic pulse welding using 1, 5 and 10 turn flat coils

Abstract(in English) The discharge circuits for magnetic pulse welding of sheet metals using 1, 5 and 10 turn flat coils will have tens of times greater differences in capacitance (electric capacity), circuit inductance and circuit resistance during discharge. We compare the discharge circuits when the oscillation period of the damped oscillating discharge current is almost the same. Welding is performed by rapidly flowing the discharge current from each capacitor to each coil. Al/Cu sheets are overlapped with a gap, are fixed on each insulated coil. The Al sheet near the coil is electromagnetically coupled to the coil. When the current flows through the coil, the generated high-density magnetic flux is suddenly applied to the Al sheet. The resulting eddy currents are induced in the Al sheet and electromagnetic forces act on it. The Al sheet collides to the Cu sheet at high speed and both sheets are welded. In order to weld both sheets efficiently, the sheets are collided near the discharge current peak. We obtain and compare each inductance, resistance, logarithmic decrement, etc. from discharge circuit analysis and discharge current waveforms. This can support efficient magnetic pulse welding using the new 10 turn coil.
