Measurement of Radio Wave Propagation Characteristics for Inspections of Power Transmission Lines by Using Multicopters

Abstract(in English) This paper considers a system using multicopters for autonomous inspection of power transmission lines. In this system, base stations are placed on power transmission tower and control information for autonomous flight is exchanged between the base stations and multicopters. In this paper, we carry out transmission experiments of 920 MHz LPWA between the transmitter of a multicopter and a receiver on the power transmission tower toinvestigate characteristics of radio wave propagation. We measure the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and telemetry information of autonomous flight such as velocity and angular rate. From the measured results, we calculate mean and standard deviation of RSSI as well as correlation coefficient between RSSI and telemetry information, and discuss the feasibility of this system.
