Glocal Disaster Monitoring System by Using Satellite Images and Social Media Data

Abstract(in English) Nowadays, the Internet and smartphones are widespread and it is easy to transmit and share information. In addition, the accuracy of meteorological forecasts has improved significantly. However, there are still many cases in which many victims are caused by delays in escape during a disaster. Therefore, we have been attempting to construct a “glocal disaster monitoring system” by combining satellite data suitable for global disaster damage monitoring and social media information that can be used for local disaster damage monitoring. In this study, we constructed a prototype of a glocal disaster monitoring system that simultaneously displays inundation area estimation results obtained from satellite data and disaster-related tweets on a map.
