Abstract(in English) We propose a segmentation method of the alveoli from μCT volumes. The peripheral lung mainly consists of tiny spherical structures called alveoli. A μCT scanner can capture the alveoli μCT volumetric images. However, it is difficult to observe the alveoli intuitively due to the complicated three-dimensional distribution. Thus, we proposed a Watershed-based segmentation method for intuitive visualization of the alveoli. We introduced distance transformation to deal with the alveoli whose boundaries were unclearly shown. Experiments were conducted using μCT volumes of the human lungs. The alveoli were segmented accurately and visualized intuitively.
