| Abstract(in English) | Some web browsers used in some specific computers have a specification that a single-word search query (a word that contains neither spaces nor certain types of symbols) entered in the search bar is sent to the domain name system (DNS) cache server as a DNS request including the word as a domain name before being sent to the search engine. Since such browser behavior is unexpected by the users, researchers have reported privacy concerns by the single-word search query leakage. This paper refers to such behavior as the ``search query leakage issue'' and presents the results of a survey on the behavior and conditions under which this issue occurs. Then, using a DNS traffic dataset captured at DNS cache servers, we demonstrate that a considerable number of search queries are leaked. Finally, we propose a method to evaluate how much the occurrence of this problem affects the privacy of users based on the distributed representation of words and its clustering, and show that it is possible to infer the tendency of user interests. |
