Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The authors consider millimeter-wave linear cell systems are promising to accommodate huge communication traffic on a high-speed environment such as a train or a highway. In the systems, a relay mounted on a car or train communicates with a base station along a moving path using millimeter-wave bands. The base station can cover long distance by using an adaptive beamforming technique that control a narrow beam dynamically. On the other hand, if beam direction is fixed, signal strength might be degraded severely due to beam misalignment e.g. in curved line environment, but it is easy to implement. In a previous study, the authors have proposed a base station placement design method to minimize the number of base stations required to cover an entire path and evaluated the performance to apply adaptive beamforming to both the base station and relay from the viewpoint of the required number of base stations. In this paper, we evaluate the performance to apply adaptive beamforming to either the base station or the relay. The evaluation results demonstrate that adaptive beamforming on the relay-side is more important to reduce the number of required base stations. |
