Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | A question is defined as asking the recipient to present information or asking for confirmation, and in general, an answer to the question is expected to follow. Such a question-answer sequence is often considered to promote mutual understanding and contribute to Grounding (Clark, 1996). However, the tone of speech sometimes makes the other participants in talk feel confused or uncomfortable, and some tones of speech can cause issues or difficulties in communication. We therefore use English as a lingua franca (ELF) for multi-person task achievement conversation (Yamaguchi & Tanimura, 2018), and analyze paralinguistic aspects such as pitch, intensity and silence time using Praat to show the relationship of these with the grammatical forms and functions. |
