| Abstract(in English) | In the US, the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act was passed on December 20, 2020. This act requires foreign companies listed on the U.S. market not to be under the control of a foreign government. If a company violates this requirement, it will be delisted. Because the global investment networks are so complex, companies can be controlled by other organizations before they realized it. A Chinese power transmission company owns 40% of the shares of NGCP, a Philippine power transmission company. The largest shareholder of this Chinese transmission company is the Chinese government. Therefore, the NGCP is under the control of the Chinese government. This fact was not noticed by anyone until the Philippine opposition party pointed it out in 2019. We propose the Network Power Index (NPI), which is an extension of the Shapley-Shubik Power Index that measures voting power in shareholder meetings. By using NPI, we can visualize the direct and indirect control relationships in complex global investment networks. |
